Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested 31-year-old Dylan Jessen Gapp, of Kea‘au, with various firearms offenses and violation of a court order, following the execution of a search warrant at a residence on 13th Avenue, in Kea‘au, Friday morning, April 12, 2024.

The Area I Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), along with the department’s Special Response Team (SRT) executed the warrant following several investigations involving Gapp reportedly being in possession of firearms, in violation of a protective court order.

Upon initial execution of the search warrant, Gapp was not home; however, he returned to the residence a short time later and voluntarily surrendered to police without incident at 10:05 a.m.

There were no reported injuries to Gapp or police personnel.

Gapp is being held in the Hilo police cellblock while the Crime Reduction Unit continues the investigation. Gapp was also arrested on the strength of a warrant for the offense of Failure to Appear, stemming from a previous terroristic threatening case.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to call Officer Spencer Thomas of the Area I Crime Reduction Unit, at (808) 961-2272 or email at spencer.thomas@hawaiicounty.gov.
