Today, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Hilo man, 40-year-old Nathan Ni‘ihau, was charged for the theft of a Jeep Wrangler, methamphetamine, and credit card offenses.

As the Complaint alleges, Ni‘ihau was charged with Theft in the First Degree for unauthorized control of property valued over $20,000.00, Unauthorized Control of Propelled Vehicle, Unauthorized Possession of Confidential or Personal Information, Theft of Credit Card, and two counts of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree for possession of methamphetamine.

At the time of his arrest, Ni‘ihau was on supervised release for two unrelated felony matters. According to court records, one of those cases also involves felony charges for Unauthorized Control of Propelled Vehicle and Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree and a Criminal Prop Damage IV Misdemeanor related to January 2021 incidents.

He also has a Criminal trespass II enclosed/fenced premises and Bail jumping first-degree felony charge for which he was on Supervised Release granted by Henry T Nakamoto all within this year.

Ni‘ihau is scheduled to make his initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $75,000.00 bail.

The investigation was handled by Detective Jeremy Kubojiri, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Hashizaki.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Should pass a law charging these Judges with poor judgment freeing accused criminals and repeat offenders with jail time for putting us. Citizens in danger and stress because of their actions and waste of public safety concerns!
