Judge Maintains Bail on Mountain View Man Charged with Alleged Criminal Property Damage and Promoting a Dangerous Drug

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Mountain View man, 32-year-old Alfred Santiago, was charged for criminal property damage and methamphetamine charges related to an August 20th incident in Puna.

As the Complaint alleges, Santiago was charged with two counts of Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree, one count for damaging property valued at over $20,000.00 and another count of damaging property during the emergency period, and Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (methamphetamine).

A review of court records indicates that at the time of his arrest, Santiago was out of custody pending eleven (11) other criminal matters. His bail was set in lieu of $22,000.00.

Today at Santiagos Arraignment and Plea. An oral motion was made by DPD for Defendant’s release under supervision or bail reduction in the aggregate amount of $10,000. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Andrew D. Son made an objection for the State. Judge Jeffrey Hawk denied the defense’s oral motion. JDPC provided by State that reflects probable cause was previously found for further detention of Defendant. Bail maintained.

The lead investigators were Officers Conrad Bidal and Roger Carvalho, Puna Patrol, and Detective Jeremy Kubojiri, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney R. Winston Albright.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
