Police Seek Bee Hives Thieves

In a post that was all the Buzz for a few days on social media.

Hawai‘i Island police are asking for the public’s assistance in providing information about the theft of several beehives from a farm in Kea‘au.

The hives, valued at $22,000, were removed from a farm on Opukahaia Street in Kea‘au between Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, and Tuesday, November 2.

A $2000 reward from Hawaii Island Honey Company for information leading to the arrest of thieves was posted on Social media. Also detailed was that the thieves stole 22 single deep colonies from behind a locked gate. The Equipment is easily identified and traceable if located or found. And the Queens are marked with numbered tags.

Agricultural theft is a serious crime that has tremendous negative impacts on local farmers. Hawai‘i Police Department is committed to pursuing those who commit these crimes.
